Suggested Maritime Reading

Ahoy!

If you are like many students interested in Maine Maritime Academy, you are very active, ambitious, and involved. You may not have time to scan the newspaper, let alone the time to read a thrilling 400-page work of fiction. Finding subjects that attract and hold your attention is a big consideration when deciding what (or if) to read.

Having indicated an interest in MMA, you may like the Suggested Maritime Reading List we have compiled about maritime events and adventures.

Suggested Maritime Reading List

Reading is a great way to improve certain skills that will be useful in your personal and professional life. Reading expands your vocabulary, improves your spelling, grammar usage and mechanics; and aids in your ability to organize your thoughts and present a coherent opinion or position.

Research shows that students who read “for fun” are better communicators (both orally and written) and perform better on standardized tests (SAT or ACT) than those who do not.

When do I find the time?
If you maintain a busy schedule, curl up to read a couple pages or a chapter or two at bedtime. You may find this productive reading time as well as a great sleep inducer.

I hope you find these books interesting.
